Maple Sugar Frosting

This is an incredible frosting that is so delicious. Goes great with my Maple Cake!

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup maple sugar (if using solid maple sugar grind before use)
  • 1 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients in a heavy bottom saucepan. Set over low heat and stir until all sugar has dissolved.
  2. Increase heat and bring to a boil. Set candy thermometer in place and cease all stirring. Cook to 238F. Wash sugar crystals from side of pan as needed. Remove from heat and set saucepan on a wire rack. Cool, without disturbing, until 110F.
  3. Beat mixture with a wooden spoon or in a stand mixer with paddle attachment until it is spreading consistency.
  4. Use immediately.
  5. If frosting becomes too thick a few drops of milk may be added.

Yield: Enough to fill and frost 3 x 8 inch cakes.
