Some say if you have goals, write them down. So, here’s mine:
I need both a career change and a location change and so my goals are to earn money online, ideally in web development or blogging, and in the next couple years I’d love to be able to move back to the coast where the environment is less disabling for my child. I love Alberta, and I’m so glad to have moved here, but the winters are very hard, especially for those with existing mobility issues. I am also unable to return to most restaurants as I have been diagnosed with multiple food allergies that are extremely problematic for most cooks. This has lead me onto a new path, one that I am embracing and ready for.
My desire to learn web development began about 20 years ago when I made my first website “PrettyInPunk” .ca which was to display a line of clothing I had done a fashion show for, a kind of portfolio which I used to apply for Fashion Design School. From there I never really stopped making websites, I just stopped learning to code, and instead focused on WordPress, Wix, Bluehost Website Builder, Google Pages, and other similar GUI based design platforms. I have since returned to learning to code and my eventual goal is to learn full stack web development, which if you’re not familiar means I would like to learn both the front end (how websites look) and back end (how websites function).
Initially I started theodinproject.com which is a free open source program written by some extremely talented web developers. It was really captivating at first but when I got to the javascript I quickly felt I needed a more visual experience. I then signed up for Dr. Angela Yu’s Full Stack Development course on Udemy and plowed through it right up to the Javascript, again. I then took another Javascript course on Udemy! I think I mostly get it now? Said with a slight level of uncertainty, indeed. Now that I’ve returned to Dr. Angela’s course I see she has completely overhauled the html, css, bootstrap, git, and javascript courses I’ve already done, so I decided to do them again just to see what I know and I must say that she did a great job with the updates. The course has been well worth what I paid for it.
However, as I’ve heard web developers say, I am officially in “tutorial hell”. But I am keen to persist.
The goal with this blog is to be a personal blog of my web development experience as well as an organized resource of all of my recipes. I have thousands of recipes and I am slowly typing them into a database, then adding them here on my blog. It is a long and tedious process but in the end I hope to have at least a thorough personal recipe resource and at best, a means of income.
In order to remain on this path I am hoping to start a #100daysofcode soon over on my Twitter page so if you’re not already following me there please do so at:
In the meantime, there is a game tonight, so I’ll sign off with a #LetsGoOilers!
